We enjoyed having Kelsey and Marlow with us for a little bit this morning. Miss Kelsey’s Charger ticket was pulled during the assembly last week to be “Principal for an Hour”. She got to bring a friend with her! These ladies did a great job!! Whose Charger ticket will be drawn next month?

Mark your calendars!! All parents and/or community members are invited to join in on the fun!! We will be working for a short time on Saturday, October 3rd, working on cleaning up the campus at MES. We will spend the majority of the time on the playgrounds but there is plenty to do. We will be working from 9:00 -11:00. We can't wait to see everyone.

We are enjoying having Mr. Todd with us at MES. “Coach T” has been doing a great job and is working with cooperating teacher, Amy Glasgow to keep our students active, learning, and successful.

Back to School STEM Fun at MES! Students have been practicing expectations in the STEM Lab by completing exciting Back-to-School LEGO challenges! Students were challenged to design and create adorable class pets, comfortable desks, unique backpacks, and secret playground hiding spots. Students did an amazing job working together, sharing ideas, collaborating, and using their creativity to design their back-to-school objects. We can't wait to see what they create next in the STEM Lab!

Ms. Brittany Carter’s fourth grade class has been learning about different types of figurative language in ELA the past few weeks. So, today is “Idiom Dress-Up Day” in her class. The students were very creative with their costumes and had a parade of idioms to other classes to display their idioms and explain the literal meaning.

On Friday afternoons, Miss Addison’s class gets a book from our class library plus a mini flashlight, finds a place around the room, and reads silently to themselves. They are doing special things to instill a love for reading. During this time, they have calming noise playing such as a campfire, stream, or brook.

These students did an AMAZING job writing a summary for Chapter 10 of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing! They worked hard to identify the most important events, include key details, and put their ideas into their own words. We are so proud of their hard work and awesome writing! Keep sharpening those writing skills and letting your pencils shine!

The Beta Club's December service project was bringing items for Bingo Night at an assisted living facility. We are so proud of their giving spirit. This is really what the holiday season is all about!

Creating Our Class Constitution!
In ELA, Mrs. Paige’s students are learning about the Constitution and its creation. To kick start the unit the kiddos worked together on Monday to come up with rules that make their classroom safe, FUN, and all about teamwork. The most realistic will be approved as a day in her class. Love watching their ideas come to life!

35 of our top spellers in 5th grade competed in our annual MES Spelling Bee! All students did a wonderful job, but Owen Satterfield earned the Spelling Bee Champion title after battling eight rounds! Toby Smith was our runner up! Both boys will compete in the district level spelling bee next month. Help us congratulate Owen and Toby and wish them luck in their next competition!!

The students may have been a bit baffled today!! We decided to have an incognito day and see if they could guess our theme! Their looks, comments, and reactions were priceless!!

There’s no place like the fourth grade! 🌈 As part of our Benchmark Advance curriculum, students explored excerpts from both the novel and drama version. Students completed a variety of math problems and a writing activity all relating to The Wizard of Oz. Huge thanks to the Charger Foundation for making this magical learning experience possible through their generous grant!

Mrs. Allie’s class has officially adopted a calf through the Discovery Dairy Adopt a Cow Program — meet their new calf, Ivy! Over the next few months, students get to follow Ivy’s journey on the farm, learn how she grows, and discover all kinds of fun facts about dairy farming. This program helps students connect what they learn in the classroom to real-life agriculture — and we can’t wait to see Ivy’s updates!

Students have been learning key concepts, like sequencing and creating loops and functions, during their computer programming unit in the STEM Lab. In their first challenge, they had to create a program (or code) to get their partner through a grid without any mistakes. Students had to use critical thinking skills to "debug" their program if they had mistakes. They are doing a fantastic job so far! In the coming weeks, each grade level will get the opportunity to program various robots to wrap up this study.

ELA got hands-on today in Mrs. Allie’s class! Students traded in their pencils for scalpels and became surgeons. They performed “text feature surgery” to save Sammy the Skeleton. They diagnosed problems, used headings, captions, diagrams, and more to bring Sammy back to life! They think Sammy will make a full recovery!
